Asset Location
Hypothetical illustration.
Most platforms manage each account of a household as a separate portfolio. Vise puts them in one account group, with one engine.
Hypothetical illustration.
You set one target for the group, not one for each account. Vise then decides the mix in each account.
Hypothetical illustration.
Vise uses the actual tax rates and tax lots of each client. Vise does not move the assets that are held away or that you lock.
Each household, not only the largest
Many firms do asset location manually in a spreadsheet, so they do it only for their largest clients. Vise does it for each household.
A specific target for one account
You can also set a specific target for one account. The engine then optimizes the other accounts around it.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between asset allocation and asset location?
Asset allocation is what a client owns. Asset location is which account holds each investment. A good location does not change the risk. But it can help decrease the part of the return that goes to tax.
Does Vise trade automatically?
No. Vise proposes the trades. A trade does not occur until you approve it.
Can a move of holdings cause taxes?
Yes, it can. You set a gains budget for each household. Vise realizes only the gains that this budget permits. You can complete the move in later years.
Does Vise manage withdrawals?
Not at this time. Today, the engine optimizes placement, and the advisor controls withdrawals.
Location Alpha is an estimate of after-tax return improvement from asset placement. It is not a return and is not a guarantee of any tax or investment outcome. Hypothetical illustrations do not reflect actual client accounts and are subject to the limitations of modeled assumptions; actual results vary based on starting portfolio, account mix, inflows and outflows, embedded gains, and individual client tax rates. Tax treatment is not guaranteed and may vary based on individual circumstances. Due to the complexity of tax law, not every taxpayer will face the situations described exactly as calculated. Examples are representative of some, but not all, taxpayers. Consult a qualified tax professional regarding your specific situation.
