At Vise, we've always believed that transformative technology needs transformative leadership. Today, we're excited to announce Kamal Jafarnia as our new General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer — a strategic addition that underscores our commitment to innovation and responsible growth.
With more than three decades of experience at the intersection of law, compliance, and financial innovation, Kamal brings a wealth of expertise that will be crucial as Vise continues to revolutionize how financial advisors serve their clients.
Fueled by the rapid rise of Enterprise RIAs and their pursuit of centralized efficiency, we believe the industry is moving toward a total portfolio solution — a vision where equities, fixed income, and alternatives converge seamlessly in one platform.
Most recently, Kamal served as Co-Founder and General Counsel at Opto Investments, Inc., a fintech platform revolutionizing access to private funds by empowering fiduciaries with technology to confidently invest in private markets. As a co-founder, he played a critical role in the early days shaping Opto's strategy and infrastructure, ensuring a strong foundation for appropriate and suitable asset allocation as well as private fund capitalization.
Prior to Opto, Kamal was the General Counsel at Artivest. Artivest was a platform that transformed the way financial advisors and high-net-worth investors accessed, evaluated, and invested in private equity, real assets, and hedge funds. In 2020 Artivest was sold to iCapital, with Kamal steering the transaction through complex legal nuances and regulatory intricacies.
Kamal's career could be defined by a consistent mission to make alternative investment strategies more accessible to retail investors. Artivest built technology to support distribution of alternatives, while Opto is giving independent RIAs a technology toolbox to allocate to alts and build custom private funds. With Vise's push to deliver a total portfolio solution, Kamal's move is a natural next step.
"Kamal's extensive experience pioneering the alternative asset space is critical to bringing us closer to our vision of a truly holistic investment solution," said Vise CEO and Co-Founder, Samir Vasavada.
"In my years of experience working across investment management and technology, I've learned to recognize truly transformative potential," reflects Kamal. "At Vise, I see more than groundbreaking technology — I see a culture that reminds me of the early days of tech giants. There's a palpable sense of purpose in every conversation, every decision."
What sets Kamal apart is his proven track record of building and enhancing compliance frameworks while enabling innovation. From leading Artivest through its successful acquisition by iCapital, to serving as CCO and legal counsel for firms like W. P. Carey and Franklin Square Capital Partners, Kamal has consistently driven results at the highest levels.
"I've never been afraid to roll up my sleeves and do the heavy lifting," Kamal shared. "In fact, I have always taken pride in being an essential team member tasked with making a valuable contribution for the overall strategic success of the enterprise."
At Vise, we're not just building a platform — we're reshaping the future of wealth management to allow personalized portfolios at scale, and Kamal will ensure we do so with the highest standards of legal and regulatory compliance.
